A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium. Titanium is used because of its ability to quickly fuse to the natural jawbone and it is extremely biocompatible. The titanium post is surgically placed in the jawbone and then an artificial crown, dental bridge or a denture made of acrylic or ceramic is secured to the post.

Full Mouth Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium. Titanium is used because of its ability to quickly fuse to the natural jawbone and it is extremely biocompatible. The titanium post is surgically placed in the jawbone and then an artificial crown, dental bridge or a denture made of acrylic or ceramic is secured to the post. This restoration replaces teeth to restore function and a beautiful smile.

Traditional dentures can easily become inconvenient, unstable, and uncomfortable. Dental implants are an outstanding choice for single tooth replacements, but on the scale of an entire arch, they can be too expensive and complicated. However, the combination of these two treatments provides a solution that works for almost everyone, called implant-supported overdentures, hybrid dentures or full mouth dental implants. With the placement of four to six dental implants in the jawbone and a full dental bridge secured to them, you can have a full arch of teeth in just one appointment.

If you are missing an entire arch of teeth, you can start fresh with full mouth dental implants. There are other options for restoring a full row of missing teeth such as single implants and traditional dentures, but now full mouth dental implants are a solution that combines the best of both worlds and is more affordable, quick, and convenient then an implant that replaces each individual tooth.

The Benefits of Considering Full Mouth Dental Implants

Dental implants provide some obvious advantages over other replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like your natural teeth, full mouth dental implants are designed to be long lasting. Full mouth dental implants, implant-supported full bridges and dentures are more comfortable and stable than traditional dentures, giving you a more natural biting and chewing sensation, as well as reliable speech.

Full mouth dental implants also replace some of your tooth roots, which helps preserve the integrity of your jawbone. With traditional dentures, the bone that previously surrounded the tooth roots begins to atrophy and lose density. Dental implants integrate and fuse with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact.

In the longer term, implant supported restorations can be more aesthetically rewarding and easier to maintain than conventional dentures. The loss of bone that comes with conventional dentures leads to a sagging, collapsed, unattractive smile.

Benefits include:

  • Implants are the strongest and longest-lasting option available for tooth replacement.
  • Implants can look, feel, and perform like natural teeth. You will not notice any difference between your implants and your natural teeth.
  • Implants do not require alteration to the structure of adjoining teeth, like dental bridges do.
  • Implants help preserve the bone integrity with the jawbone, which is a major factor for maintaining long term oral health. They prevent the collapsed, sagging, wrinkled facial look caused by the bone loss that occurs because of missing teeth.

The Full Mouth Dental Implant Procedure

With our specialized training in implant placement and the creation of new teeth, the expert team at Dr. Crystal Dental know how the new teeth should look and function. The crowns, bridges or dentures that will attach to the implants are custom designed at certified dental lab, which only uses high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting comfort and fit.

Our team and specialists with we work with use advanced technology to ensure the accuracy of your implant placement. Using a state-of-the-art 3D CT scanner, we capture detailed 360-degree views of your entire mouth and jaw, including the nerves and the jawbone density. Specially designed 3D software allows us to map out the specific location and angle of each implant, simulating the entire procedure. If needed, we will create a surgical guide to use during the procedure to aid us with implant placement. The use of this 3D imaging and planning makes the procedure efficient and minimally invasive.

After your personalized plan has been developed, a local anesthetic is used to numb the immediate area. If you experience some dental anxiety, dental sedation can be utilized. Then the implants, which looks like tiny screws or cylinders, are surgically placed into your jaw to replace tooth roots. The incision is closed with sutures and wait for proper healing and integration over the next several months. Over this time, the titanium implants and the bone are allowed to bond, grow, or fuse together to form secure anchors for your artificial teeth. While awaiting full integration, a temporary teeth replacement option will be created for you.

Then a second step is necessary to uncover the implants and attach extensions or abutments. These temporary healing caps, along with the connecting devices that allow your restoration to attach to the implants, complete the foundation on which your new teeth will be placed. Your gums need a couple of weeks following this procedure to heal.

The connecting method that will hold your new teeth can be tightened down on the implants. Dr. Crystal Dental will recommend either a ball type snap-on retaining fixture or a bar type that follows the curve of your arch. The final restoration will snap on either foundation if this is the option you selected. Alternatively, the final restoration may be screwed into place, and only removed by the dentist.

Finally, the full bridges or full dentures that have been custom created for you will be placed on to your retaining system. After a brief period, you will immediately experience restored confidence in your smile and your ability to chew and speak.

Every situation is unique, and some of these steps can be combined when conditions permit. Our team will work with you to determine your best treatment plan.
